Introduction
Caravane Renard du Désert is a family-run agency founded and operated by nomads from M'Hamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the vast expanses of the Sahara. For more than fifteen years, Mbark, Mohamed and their team of guides — all children of the desert — have been leading travellers along the trails they have walked their entire lives. Our approach is deliberately fair and community-based: every journey supports local families, camel drivers, cooks and craftspeople of the Drâa Valley. Respect for the desert, its people and their traditions lies at the heart of every trip we organise.
Starting from M'Hamid El Ghizlane, we take you to discover the great dunes of Erg Chegaga, one of the last wild ergs in Morocco — a destination shaped for those who seek vastness, silence and genuine human encounter.
For a first taste of the Sahara, our one-day 4x4 excursions or overnight stay under the stars at a desert camp offer a vivid first encounter. Travellers with more time can join a true camel trek (méharée), walking at the pace of the caravaneers, far from tracks and engines.
Several gateways lead into the Sahara: we operate tours from Marrakech, crossing Ouarzazate, the Drâa Valley and the Agdz palm grove, as well as departures from Foum Zguid, the shortest route to the dunes. For accommodation, choose between a wild nomad-style camp and a luxury camp with fully equipped tents.
The desert also lends itself to inner journeys: our yoga and meditation retreats draw on the Saharan silence for an authentic practice. To help prepare your trip, our complete guide to travel in the Moroccan desert gathers all our advice, and the article on the three glasses of tea introduces you to nomadic hospitality even before you arrive.
